Dental Office Sterilization
We view your health and safety when visiting our offices as the highest priority. We diligently work to prevent the spread of infection by undertaking a robust cleaning and sterilization routine. Before each and every exam, all surfaces including the dental chair, dental light, drawer handles, and countertops are sanitized and disinfected. You’ll notice that many pieces of equipment are covered with protective plastic that is replaced after each patient.
Dental Office Sterilization Practices
Every member of our staff is trained in infection control protocols and practices. Our dental team members always use the appropriate protective equipment during procedures and exams, including the wearing of masks, gowns, gloves, and eyewear when appropriate. Such items are discarded or cleaned following every visit.
A critical component of our practice is handwashing. Handwashing is widely recognized as the primary way to prevent the spread of infection. Every member of our staff washes their hands with soap and water or uses antibacterial hand sanitizer frequently, including between each patient and before leaving the exam room.
After every exam, we pay particular attention to surfaces and work areas. This includes all areas of the office including waiting rooms. We provide the following for all staff and clients:
- Face masks and gloves for both staff and clients
- Disinfectant hand soap is stocked and available throughout the office, located at every sink
- Surfaces and countertops are cleaned with EPA approved chemical disinfectants

Preventing Infection by Cleaning Equipment
Our staff uses state of the art protocols and practices when cleaning dental instruments and in carrying out dental office sterilization. Our commitment is to provide you with the highest quality of care in a safe and clean environment.
Many dental tools that are used for routine dental care are disposable, but those that are not are sterilized and cleaned between each patient. Our staff employs advanced dental sterilization equipment and machines, including dental autoclaves, steam sterilizers, and dental sterilizers. Using such equipment kills bacteria, viruses, and other infectious germs by applying steam, pressure, and heat.
Some items that we use are disposable and considered single-use items. These are things like impression trays and syringe tips. Once used, these are disposed of safely and properly. Other disposable items include masks, gowns, face shields, gloves, and many of the items used by your dental hygienist, including floss, brushes, and gauze. These items are only used once.
Any item that can’t be discarded is disinfected and thoroughly cleaned between each and every use. We follow the steps below to ensure that they are safe and ready to use:
- All instruments are thoroughly cleaned using ultrasonic cleaners. These cleaners remove all bacteria, germs, and other debris.
- Once clean, instruments are wrapped and sealed in special packages before they move on to sterilization and storage.
- After they’ve been packaged, we use FDA approved dental autoclave sterilizers to make sure they are completely sanitized.
- Finally, all of our surfaces and machines are disinfected and cleaned using EPA approved surface cleaners.
